Khövsgöl Lake, often called the “Blue Pearl of Mongolia,” sits in the far north near the Russian border and holds a large share of the country’s fresh water. It’s reached by domestic flight to Mörön, then by road, and sits close to the Darkhad Valley — home to the Tsaatan (Dukha) reindeer herders, one of the last reindeer-herding cultures in the world.

Khövsgöl combines a genuinely different Mongolian landscape — pine-forested mountains and a huge, clear lake — with access to the Tsaatan reindeer herders, whose way of life is rare even within Mongolia.
