Naadam Festival & Eagle Hunters Trek

This journey combines Mongolia’s most important cultural celebration — the Naadam Festival — with an immersive adventure in Western Mongolia’s Altai Mountains. Experience life with Kazakh eagle hunters, explore the wild landscapes of Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, travel on horseback to alpine lakes and glaciers, and conclude the journey at the vibrant Naadam Festival in Ölgii.

This regional Naadam celebration in Ölgii is separate from Mongolia’s national Naadam Festival (July 11–13) — exact dates vary by year and will be confirmed closer to booking.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Arrive at Chinggis Khaan International Airport. Rest after your international flight. Overnight in Ulaanbaatar (not included).

Day 2: Fly to Western Mongolia & eagle hunter family

Morning flight to Ölgii, then drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Visit and stay with a Kazakh eagle hunter family — an introduction to eagle hunting traditions. Overnight in a nomadic yurt or tent.

Day 3: Eagle hunter experience & Turgen Valley

Morning eagle hunting demonstration, then drive to Turgen Waterfall Valley for a horseback ride into the valley. Overnight with a nomadic family in a traditional yurt.

Day 4: Horseback ride to Khoton Lake

A full day riding through mountain terrain to Khoton Lake. Camp by the lakeshore near nomadic families, with sunset photography and relaxation.

Day 5: Altai glaciers & ancient burial sites

Drive to ancient burial and petroglyph sites, then continue to the Altai Tavan Bogd glacier area. Overnight in a nomadic yurt.

Day 6: Glacier viewpoint & Ulaankhus summer pasture

A short hike to glacier viewpoints, then a scenic drive to Ulaankhus summer pasture for riverside camping with nomadic families.

Day 7: Drive to Ölgii & Naadam opening ceremony

Drive back to Ölgii town and attend the opening ceremony of the Naadam Festival, with cultural performances and celebrations. Overnight in a local guesthouse or hotel.
